Construction Starts

Construction started in early march when I finally picked up the steel.

Naturally I didn't want a pile of steel sitting on the ground, in the way so I built a metal holder out of scrap steel from the fab table project. The metal supplier I found is cheaper or the same price to buy full length stock pieces of steel (typically 20' or 24' long) compared to buying just what I need from other steel yards. So I have a lot of extra typically.

Cutting was quick work with the cold-cut miter saw from Evolution. Scribing lines and being very picky about the cuts took longer but paid off in the end. Knowing now what I didn't then is I'd pay a bunch extra for a saw with a laser or blade shadow so I could easily see where the blade kerf will be. It'd save so much time!

I assembled the front section which I'd then slide over the two main frame rails. This sounded like a good idea at the time but more on that later.
